Frequently Asked Questions
How can The Roots help me?
Hello! At The Roots, we’re here to support young people directly—no need for a professional referral. We focus on early intervention and prevention for emotional challenges like worries, anxieties, and stress.
The Roots offers opportunities and tools for young people and families to develop their physical, emotional, and social skills through one-on-one sessions, group sessions, virtual resources, and peer mentoring.
What do therapy sessions look like?
Therapy sessions at The Roots create a friendly and welcoming space where young people can explore their feelings and personal growth over 6 to 12 weekly sessions. Here’s what to expect:
Comfortable Atmosphere: Our sessions are warm and non-judgmental, making sure everyone feels at ease sharing their experiences.
Skilled Guides: Our therapists know what they are doing! Especially when it comes to working with different backgrounds. They’re there to offer support, guidance, and strategies that fit your age and situation.
Tailored Experience: Whether you’re a young person or a parent/carer, therapy is all about you. We customize it to your needs and preferences.
Privacy First: What you talk about in therapy stays between us, building trust and openness. The only time we might have to share something is if we’re worried about you or someone else.
Open Chat: Our therapists are all about listening to you. They want to hear what’s on your mind and make sure you have a say in how your therapy journey goes.
How do I know if I have a 'mental health problem'?
It’s great that you’re paying attention to your mental health. Figuring out if something’s wrong with your wellbeing can be tricky. If you’ve noticed changes, like intense emotions, different behaviours, trouble sleeping, or finding it hard to focus, it might be a sign. Negative self-talk or physical symptoms, social isolation, or using substances can also be signals.
Remember, it’s normal to experience some of these things during life’s ups and downs. But if these signs stick around, get worse, or really mess with your daily life, it’s smart to talk to a trusted adult, counsellor, or mental health professional. They can help you figure out what’s going on and give you tips on how to handle it.
Once we get your referral, we discuss it with the team. After this, someone from the team will get in touch with you by email or phone to let you know what the next steps are.
