Emotionally Based School Avoidance
Is your child struggling with anxiety or low mood that’s impacting their school attendance? You’re not alone—about 1 in 10 children face distress or anxiety around going to school. This workshop is designed to help parents and carers support their children through these challenges.
We’ll cover:
- What Emotionally Based School Avoidance is
- The emotions behind school avoidance
- How to understand and support your child’s emotional needs
- Practical tips for overcoming anxiety about school
- How to seek help and support from your child’s school
Before the workshop, we’ll send you a video that explains common fears and worries about school, setting the foundation for our 90-minute session. During the workshop, we’ll build on that knowledge, providing you with practical tools and creating an action plan to help your child regain confidence and comfort in attending school.
Talking with Teens – a parent workshop
Join us for a free parent workshop where we’ll chat about communicating with our teenage children.
With all the changes that come with being a teenager, keeping up communication can become challenging for us as parents. Come join us to explore what research shows are helpful ways to keep open and positive communication with our teenage children, navigating the ups and downs of teenage life. We will discuss ideas and strategies that help us stay connected as our children go through the changes and challenges of the teenage years.
This is a 2-hour workshop led by a Systemic Family Practitioner. In a supportive group with other parents, this is your time to try out new ways of communicating and build on your relationship with your teenager.
What to expect
Our workshops are supportive, interactive, and led by our expert team of therapists. Before attending, you’ll receive an email with pre-workshop information to help you make the most of the session.
Each workshop is 2 hours long and provides space for reflection, group discussion, and the exchange of ideas. Many parents find comfort in connecting with others who are going through similar challenges, sharing experiences, and discovering new perspectives.
Our therapists will present evidence-based techniques, allowing you to select strategies that feel right for your family. Some sessions may include creating an action plan or a step-by-step guide to help you apply what you’ve learned at home.
